East Rowan rising senior Karleigh Wike announced Sunday that she’s committed to Richmond’s basketball program.
Wike had a host of offers to choose from, including Penn State, Charlotte and College of Charleston.
A 6-foot-4 post player, Wike has played three varsity seasons at East and has been all-county the past two.
She missed three January games her freshman year with an elbow injury, but she’s played in all of East’s game since and has scored 823 career points.
Wike led East to a 15-11 record in 2012-13, the program’s first winning season since 2009. Wike averaged 6.7 points as a freshman. She scored 13.7 points per game her sophomore year and 13.9 as a junior.
Wike scored in double figures in 21 of the Mustangs’ 26 games last season.
In the Sam Moir Christmas Classic, Wike was outstanding, scoring 68 points in three games, including 26 against Salisbury and 25 against North Rowan.
In NPC play, Wike had a 26-point night against a strong Carson team.
Wike’s career high was a 30-point outing against North Rowan as a sophomore.
Wike, always one of the county leaders in blocked shots and rebounds, can make things official with Richmond in the early signing period in November.
Wike is Rowan’s second early girls basketball commitment. Earlier, Brielle Blaire committed to Virginia Tech.
