Potter’s Outreach on Clancy Street to hold community prayer vigil

The Potter’s House Outreach Ministries, 119A & B Clancy St., will host a community prayer watch on Sunday, Aug. 4 at 6 p.m. with pastor Reginald Longcrier of Exodus Ministries of Hickory. Cedar Grove Gospel will be celebrating their 55th anniversary today, Saturday, Aug. 3 at 6 p.m. In- and out-of-town groups will participate. The anniversary will conclude on Sunday, Aug. 4, at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Carolyn Bratton, pastor of Moore’s Chapel AME Zion Church, as the guest speaker.

Kent Bernhardt will preach at both the 8:30 and 11 a.m.worship services at Milford Hills United Methodist Church this Sunday, Aug. 4. Kent has been a local broadcaster for many years, working with The Performance Racing Network and WSTP, and he writes a regular feature column for The Salisbury Post.
He has performed in numerous productions with Piedmont Players and the Lee Street Theater through the years. He has also served the public as the master of ceremonies for many community benefits throughout the Rowan County region.
CHINA GROVE — First Baptist Church of China Grove has been celebrating its 125th year for several months and will conclude with a homecoming gathering on Oct. 13. As a part of thanking God for His blessings, this Sunday, Aug.4, Janet Brawley will be describing how on the church’s 100th anniversary a box of special items was placed in the cornerstone of the sanctuary and will not be retrieved and opened until 2038 when the church will honor its 150th anniversary. A video of that event in 1988 will be shown as a part of her presentation. The public is invited to join the church family in this unique presentation. Services are at 8:30 and 11 a.m.
ROCKWELL — Phaniels Baptist Church, 2685 Phaniels Church Road, is having Homecoming on Aug.4, with Rev. Gene Faggart as guest pastor.
Sunday School begins at 9:45 a.m.; worship begins at 11 a.m.
Groundbreaking of Calvary Baptist Church’s multi-purpose building will take place on Sunday, Aug. 4 at the 11 a.m. service
It will include a kitchen, fellowship hall, rest rooms and ample space for worship. Removable chairs will be used in order to make room for basketball, fellowship and other activities.
The groundbreaking ceremonies will follow the worship service. There will be a covered dish lunch in the existing fellowship hall immediately following groundbreaking.

First Presbyterian Church of Salisbury’s summer celebration and special schedule of worship has concluded and the regular weekly Sunday schedule resumes. Worship in the sanctuary is at 8:30 and in Life Center at 8:50 a.m. Sunday School is at 10 and at 11 a.m. is a worship service in the sanctuary. This Sunday, Aug. 4, Holy Communion will be served at all three worship services and Dr. Randy Kirby will preach.
CHINA GROVE — Sharing in the 11 a.m. service will be The Rev. Mary Schaller Blaufuss, Executive Director for Volunteer Services with the United Church of Christ. This past year, Mount Zion UCC has been a host church for three young adult service community volunteers who have worked within Rowan County. Tom Harding worked at the Main Street Mission in China Grove, David Theiss-Aird worked with Communities in Schools, and Tobi Kruse from Cologne, Germany was at Habitat for Humanity in Salisbury.
Rev. Schaller Blaufuss will be present to bring their volunteer service year to a close and to join Mount Zion UCC in celebrating the three volunteers service for the past eleven months.

MILL BRIDGE — Thyatira Presbyterian Church, 220 White Road, will celebrate homecoming at Mill Bridge on Sunday at 11 a.m.
A mile long covered dish will be provided for lunch.
Rev. Dr. Stephen A. Moss, former pastor of the church, will be the guest speaker.
The church was completed in 1860 and is the fourth sanctuary to house the congregation.
The church is located off of N.C. 150 near Sloan Park in the Mill Bridge community.
Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church of Salisbury will celebrate homecoming on Sunday, Aug. 4. Dinner will be served at 1:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall. The 3 p.m. service will be brought by Rev Ambrose Jackson of Gospel Light Baptist Church of Greensboro.
Revival services will occur at 7 p.m. nightly Monday Aug. 5, Tuesday Aug. 6, and Wednesday Aug. 7. Rev Richard Johnson, pastor of Hall’s Chapel Primitive Baptist Church in Salisbury, will be the speaker.

CHINA GROVE — Rose Of Sharon Holiness Church will sponsor a Gospel Jamboree fundraiser on Sunday, Aug. 4, at 3 p.m. at 325 Neelytown Road. Tickets are $10. Each ticket buys one plate of hot dog, hamburger, or fish along with sides.

The New Zion Church family announces the installation service for their new senior pastor, Rev. Vincent Patrick Jones Sr. He is the son of retiring pastor Rev. Paul Jones Sr. and Mrs. Alma L. Jones. Rev. Patrick Jones has been in the ministry for 14 years.
The installation service will be held on Sunday, Aug. 4 at 4 p.m. with guest speaker Rev. Leamon Brown, pastor of First Calvary Baptist Church in Salisbury. Other pastors participating are Rev. Nilous Avery II, Rev. Reginald McConneaughey, Rev. Rufus Wyatt and Rev. Anthony Smith.

KANNAPOLIS — The First Presbyterian Church in Kannapolis will host an American Red Cross Blood Drive this Monday, Aug. 5, from 2 to 6:30 p.m. in the church’s fellowship hall. The canteen will provide the fixings for build-your-own ice cream sundaes, along with cold beverages and snacks. The church is located at 201 Vance St. at the southern end of the North Carolina Research Campus.
This summer there is again a critical blood shortage, with donations down while demand is up. The Carolinas Region is especially low on O-, A-, and B- types. All healthy members of the community who are 17 years of age or older and weigh 110 pounds or more are urged to be lifesavers and donate blood this summer.
Donors are reminded to help decrease the chance of being deferred by eating iron-rich foods on the days leading up to the drive. On the day of the drive drink lots of water, avoiding caffeine, and eat a good breakfast and lunch.

“And God Created Music!,” a children’s choir festival, is set for Sept. 13-14 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 200 W. Innes St. The event is open to children’s choir directors and children in grades 2-5. Deadline for registration is Aug. 31.
Cost for the two-day clinic is $20 for directors and free for children. Clinician is Karol Kinard Kimmell, director of youth and children’s music at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, Atlanta.
Choir directors will gather Friday evening for a light supper followed by a workshop. The next morning, students will gather for rehearsals, snacks and play, followed by a time of sharing for parents and families, and an ice cream social will end the afternoon.
