CHINA GROVE — First Baptist Church of China Grove has been celebrating its 125th year for several months and will conclude with a homecoming gathering on Oct. 13. As a part of thanking God for His blessings, this Sunday, Aug.4, Janet Brawley will be describing how on the church’s 100th anniversary a box of special items was placed in the cornerstone of the sanctuary and will not be retrieved and opened until 2038 when the church will honor its 150th anniversary. Groundbreaking of Calvary Baptist Church’s multi-purpose building will take place on Sunday, Aug. 4 at the 11 a.m. service
It will include a kitchen, fellowship hall, rest rooms and ample space for worship. Removable chairs will be used in order to make room for basketball, fellowship and other activities.
The groundbreaking ceremonies will follow the worship service. There will be a covered dish lunch in the existing fellowship hall immediately following groundbreaking.

First Presbyterian Church of Salisbury’s summer celebration and special schedule of worship has concluded and the regular weekly Sunday schedule resumes. Worship in the sanctuary is at 8:30 and in Life Center at 8:50 a.m. Sunday School is at 10 and at 11 a.m. is a worship service in the sanctuary. This past year, Mount Zion UCC has been a host church for three young adult service community volunteers who have worked within Rowan County. Tom Harding worked at the Main Street Mission in China Grove, David Theiss-Aird worked with Communities in Schools, and Tobi Kruse from Cologne, Germany was at Habitat for Humanity in Salisbury.
Rev. Schaller Blaufuss will be present to bring their volunteer service year to a close and to join Mount Zion UCC in celebrating the three volunteers service for the past eleven months.

MILL BRIDGE — Thyatira Presbyterian Church, 220 White Road, will celebrate homecoming at Mill Bridge on Sunday at 11 a.m.

KANNAPOLIS — The First Presbyterian Church in Kannapolis will host an American Red Cross Blood Drive this Monday, Aug. 5, from 2 to 6:30 p.m. in the church’s fellowship hall. The canteen will provide the fixings for build-your-own ice cream sundaes, along with cold beverages and snacks. The church is located at 201 Vance St. at the southern end of the North Carolina Research Campus.
This summer there is again a critical blood shortage, with donations down while demand is up. The Carolinas Region is especially low on O-, A-, and B- types. All healthy members of the community who are 17 years of age or older and weigh 110 pounds or more are urged to be lifesavers and donate blood this summer.
Donors are reminded to help decrease the chance of being deferred by eating iron-rich foods on the days leading up to the drive. On the day of the drive drink lots of water, avoiding caffeine, and eat a good breakfast and lunch.

“And God Created Music!,” a children’s choir festival, is set for Sept. 13-14 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 200 W. Innes St. The event is open to children’s choir directors and children in grades 2-5. Deadline for registration is Aug. 31.
Cost for the two-day clinic is $20 for directors and free for children. Clinician is Karol Kinard Kimmell, director of youth and children’s music at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, Atlanta.
Choir directors will gather Friday evening for a light supper followed by a workshop. The next morning, students will gather for rehearsals, snacks and play, followed by a time of sharing for parents and families, and an ice cream social will end the afternoon.
