ROCKWELL — Rowan authorities found nine marijuana plants at a Rockwell home following a deputy’s response to check on the property there.
Kenneth Lee Newsome, 51, of the 6700 block of Brookes Road, Rockwell, was charged Tuesday with misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance, manufacture a controlled substance and maintaining a dwelling place for controlled substances, both felonies, a Rowan County Sheriff’s Office report said.
Newsome was released from the Rowan County jail after posting a $5,000 secured bond.
Authorities said the marijuana plants were located at 8320 Fisher Road, Rockwell, on property that belonged to Newsome, who was building a new house. Deputies made the discovery after responding to the area to check the doors to a construction trailer left open.
