MOUNT AIRY (AP) — Two icons of television from the 1960s are meeting in the North Carolina town that was the inspiration for one of their roles.
The Mount Airy News reports that Donna Douglas and Betty Lynn will get together for an autograph and photo session Thursday at the Andy Griffith Museum in Mount Airy.
Douglas played Elly May Clampett on “The Beverly Hillbillies,” while Lynn was Thelma Lou on “The Andy Griffith Show,” which was based in part on Griffith’s hometown of Mount Airy.
Tanya Jones, executive director of the Surry Arts Council, said Lynn was the catalyst for the event. Jones said Douglas contacted the arts council because she was going to be in North Carolina and had friends who wanted to meet Lynn.
