CHARLOTTE — The Community Blood Center of the Carolinas recently announced the 10 regional high schools that have been chosen for the $1,000 CBCC grant for the 2012-2013 school year.
This year’s winners are Jesse Carson High School, East Rutherford High, Southern Alamance, Phillip O’Berry, Crest High, Cutherbertson High, Floyd D. Johnson Tech, West Wilkes, Newton Conover and East Mecklenburg High.
The CBCC knows how important it is to educate and recognize its young donors while giving back to the local school systems. By hosting blood drives with CBCC, high school students gain recognition for their service and learn how blood impacts patients in the community.
Each time a school sponsors a blood drive with CBCC, the school’s name is entered into a drawing to win one of ten $1,000 grants. High school partners that host a minimum of two blood drives, collecting at least 100 units within one school year will also receive a $500 scholarship to award to a student of their choice. Schools may nominate any senior for the program and the award will be distributed directly to the college or university of the selected student. Since 2009, CBCC has awarded more than $98,500 in scholarships and grants.
The CBCC depends on high schools for almost 25 percent of its local blood supply. To host a drive at your high school, please contact Kim Jones at 704-972-4727 or email sponsorinfo@cbcc. For more information on hosting a blood drive or donating blood in your area, visit http://www.cbcc.us or call 704-972-4700.
