SALISBURY — A motorcyclist was taken to an area hospital after authorities said the rider passed a motorist and slammed into the back of a Honda Monday evening on Webb Road.
N.C. Highway Patrol Trooper Brad Marshall said the motorcyclist did not appear to have significant injuries, but was taken to Carolinas Medical Center at NorthEast as a precaution.
Motorist Opal Logan said the bike passed her around the 1200 block of Webb Road about 6:30 p.m. Monday.
“The motorcycle passed me and when he did he hit the car in the back of the butt and then he flipped. The guy’s in the ambulance,” Logan said of the motorcyclist, “he’s complaining of his left extremities.”
Marshall said the man is expected to be charged with passing in a no-passing zone and failure to reduce speed. He’ll also be charged with having an expired tag.
His name was not immediately available Monday night.
Marshall estimated the motorcycle to be traveling about 55 mph at the time of impact.
The four-door Honda, which had extensive rear damage, was turning into a residence when it was struck. It was traveling about 5 mph, Marshall said.
“Speed wasn’t a factor. He just got impatient and passed where he shouldn’t have,” Marshall said.
