Salisbury’s Eric Edwards shot 70 in the first round of the Dogwood State Junior Championship held at River Landing Country Club in Wallace.
Edwards is tied for third, two shots off the pace.
East Rowan’s Logan Shuping shot 83.
• Wayne Creekmore made a hole-in-one on the 175-yard No. 6 hole at McCanless. Creekmore’s playing partner was his wife.
• In a Junior Mac nine-hole tournament, Jacob Durham won with a 40. Alex Miller shot 41 for second place.
The next Junior Mac event is on Thursday, July 25, at 2 p.m.

Gerry Leonhardt (Catawba Creek) won low net, with Sue Sturpe (Mooresville) second, and Carolynn Reis (Corbin) third.

Randolph County finished off a third-round series sweep of the Mooresville Moors with a 9-4 win at Lake Norman High on Tuesday.
Randolph led all the way after scoring five runs in the first inning against Moors lefty Jon Stires.
Sam Marshall, Eythan Kramm and Michael Elwell drove in runs for the Moors, who finished 19-13.
Tanner Routh was the winning pitcher for Randolph, which got a two-run single from Troy Burr. Hunter Jobe closed.
Randolph (29-5) clinched a berth in the state tournament and will play Kernersville or Rowan County in the Area III championship series that begins July 20.
Randolph’s most recent Area III title came in 2008.
Northern Division teams have won Area III five of the last six seasons, with the only Southern Division champion in that span being Rowan County’s 2009 team that went to the World Series.

Appalachian State announced the addition of four scholarship players.
The quartet includes former West Montgomery QB Jaquil Capel. He’s transferring from Charlotte and will not be eligible to play in games in 2013.

West Rowan’s Junior Legion team starts play in the state tournament on Friday at East Forsyth High.
West will play Swansboro in a first-round game at 4:30 p.m.

Rowan Little League’s 11-12 all-stars went unbeaten and won the District 2 championship.
It was the first district championship for Rowan Little League softball.
The team won 18-0 against East Surry, 14-0 against North Forsyth, and won 7-2 and 11-1 against Davie County.
The team is now playing in the state tournament in Garner and won 11-1 against Cape Fear in its opening game.
• Rowan’s 9-10 softball all-stars were runner-up to East Surry in District 2 and are now playing in the state tournament in Pilot Mountain,
That team won 13-3 against Wilkesboro and 11-5 in eight innings against East Surry in its first two games.
Cavalier Football Camp at North Rowan will be held July 29-31. Camp is for rising third-eighth graders and lasts from 9 a.m. until noon.
The cost is $40 for three days or $15 per day. Campers will receive a T-shirt. Water and drinks will be provided.

The Livingstone’s women’s tennis team will be hosting its first tennis clinic, August 7-9 at the Livingstone William Trent Athletic Complex tennis courts.
The purpose of the clinic is to develop youth skills ages 7-17 so they can pursue and achieve their highest levels for competing in tennis.
