A Denton man remains in jail today, accused of taking beer from a Salisbury convenience store and punching the clerk.
Jonathan Thomas Koons, 35, of the 100 block of Point View Court, is charged with two counts of larceny, shoplifting, simple assault and injury to personal property, all misdemeanors.
Police were called to the Pop Shoppe, 1831 West Innes St., Sunday where they spoke with clerk Christian Johnson, who said he asked the man, later identified as Koons, to leave the store earlier in the night.
Koons is accused of taking three beers. Johnson said Koons, who according to a report appeared to be intoxicated, returned to the store and took other items. Koons was standing in front of a display at the front of the store when police arrived. When the clerk asked Koons to leave, the man punched the clerk in the face.
When police arrested Koons, he kicked a window in the car twice and it broke. Officers used a stun gun on Koons and restrain him.
Koons remains in the Rowan County Detention Center under $10,000 secured bond. He has a pending August court case in Guilford County for misdemeanor possession of beer/wine on a public street and driving while license revoked.
