Retro Flower Show blooming on July 13

SALISBURY — The fourth annual Retro Flower Show, sponsored by the Rowan County Extension Master Gardeners, will be held Saturday, July 13, from 1-4 p.m. at the Agricultural Building, 2727 Old Concord Road. The show, which is open to the public free of charge, has two divisions: artistic and horticultural. The artistic division is for arrangements of fresh flowers which best represent the theme of the show: “Songs of Summer.” There will be five themed song classes in addition to celebrations, miniatures and an open class.
The artistic division also has a youth category with the theme “Summer Fun.” The youth entries in both artistic and horticulture are eligible for cash awards.
The horticultural division has 60-plus classes for everything from single stem dahlias, to multiflora roses, to mini gardens, cacti and succulents, branches and stems of blooming shrubs and colorful annuals. Entries are accepted from 8-10 a.m. Entry forms are available the day of the show. Extension volunteers will be on hand to assist all participants with any questions. The doors will close at 10 a.m. for judging.
