RALEIGH (AP) — A North Carolina House panel is scheduled to review a bill approved by the Senate this week that would implement new state rules on abortions.
The House Health Care Committee said Friday the legislation will be considered Tuesday. Senate Republicans were criticized by abortion rights advocates and Democrats for adding abortion regulations to an unrelated bill the House had already approved.
A spokesman for Speaker Thom Tillis says House leaders think the reworked bill needs a hearing.
House members will decide whether to accept the Senate changes — sending the bill to Gov. Pat McCrory — or reject them, leading to a conference committee to put together a compromise.
McCrory can sign bills he receives into law, veto them or let them become law without his signature.
