A Greensboro man stopped by the N.C. Highway Patrol for impaired driving also faces drug charges from another law enforcement agency.
A trooper pulled Ramzi Gene Hubbard over on Interstate 85 near Salisbury on Monday just before 2 a.m. A department report said Hubbard became combative and had to be restrained by the trooper while at the Rowan County Magistrate’s Office. The trooper was aided by a Rowan County Sheriff’s Office deputy who was also in the magistrate’s office.
Hubbard began to calm down, but threatened to spit on officers and claimed the officers beat him when he saw his parents while walking out of the magistrate’s office, the report said. Hubbard told his parents to hurry and get him out of jail.
Highway Patrol charged Hubbard, 23, of the 3600 block of Dartford Drive, with felony possession of a controlled substance (cocaine) and misdemeanor driving while impaired.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office charged Hubbard with felony possession of a controlled substance on jail premises. He was searched after being in the jail and officers found a Xanax pill.
Hubbard was convicted in March 2010 on a number of felony larceny and breaking and entering charges that stemmed from multiple incidents in late 2008 and mid-2009, according to the N.C. Department of Public Safety website. He was also convicted in July 2011 with larceny and tampering with a vehicle.
Hubbard was issued a $1,000 secured bond from the highway patrol and $2,000 bond from the sheriff’s office. He has since been released from the Rowan County jail.
