I have lived in Rowan County for 55 years. My daughter and I graduated from West Rowan and my mother graduated from Mount Ulla. My granddaughter starts kindergarten at Mount Ulla this fall. So like many other people in Rowan County, we have a lot invested here.
I have been upset with our school board and administrators for some time now. Most of the school staff in this county are afraid to speak up for fear of the consequences they may face, which I find very sad. I, however, have nothing to lose.
What Dr. Judy Grissom has done to Dr. Donald Knox is reprehensible. I can only shake my head and wonder what she is thinking. Anyone can look at this and see right away that this decision cannot possibly have to do with the welfare of our students but obviously something else all together. I can only guess what it may be, but I say shame on you, school board, for supporting this!
The way I see it, we have three board members who are there for the goodwill of all of us. Hopefully, we can get more in the near future. I would urge anyone who cares about this situation to attend the next meeting, call your school board representative or do whatever you think may be helpful.
I, personally, will work very hard to help elect a new board member for our district in the next election.

Quoting from a recent Post editorial, “The county’s past support for the Salisbury-Rowan Human Relations Council was mostly symbolic, a vote for promoting diversity and cultural understanding.” The editorial mentions activities such as Martin Luther King Day events and La Fiesta de Rowan.
If diversity is taken to mean an intermingling of cultures, where is the diversity in celebrating all the other activities, which appear to center around either black or Hispanic interests. And why do some consider diversity as necessary for a quality lifestyle or a desirable community?
Diversity and multiculturalism — a lot of PC, feel-good nonsense — works against immigrants who are in this country legally, trying to assimilate into American culture and society. Certain big-box stores label their isles and products with Spanish language identification and directions for use.
But what are speakers of other languages to do, a melting pot of various other tongues? Most people of different origins are motivated to become a part of this land of opportunity and understand the importance of learning our native language. But organizations such as the Salisbury-Rowan Human Relations Council would prefer to cater to one specific language, Spanish, expecting the rest of us to go over to RCCC and take courses in conversational Spanish. Why not offer courses in conversational English?
Local and state governments spend tax dollars for Spanish language translations of official documents or newspaper notices. If a person from any other country wants to participate in activities not in their native language, why should the burden of helping them fit be borne by the native language speakers?
Introducing other cultures into the established American social structure is a sure way of producing a breakdown in all this country has stood for during the past 300 years.
The county commissioners were right to defund the Salisbury-Rowan Human Relations Council.

The Supreme Court recently struck down two actions, helping homosexuals. Justices ruled DOMA is unconstitutional and stated that marriage benefits must be given unto every same sex couple in every state that finds same sex marriages are legal, but they can’t force the 37 states that find same sex marriage illegal to give benefits unto same sex couples in their state.
Justice Kennedy stated that DOMA stopped everyone from marrying whoever they love, but that people should be allowed to marry whomever they love. Does this mean that polygamy should be legal also?
It’d be discrimination if these judges only supported homosexuals’ marriages, but not every type of marriage. Should children be allowed to marry their parents and sisters? Homosexuals stated they won’t stop until same sex marriages are legal in every state. Will America see another Roe vs. Wade decision making same sex marriages legal everywhere and taking states’ rights away?
Proposition 8 was struck down, but Justice Roberts has a homosexual cousin living in California who wanted the right to marry. Is this justice? Would homosexuals catch and spread diseases like AIDS, that have no cure, if homosexuality is God’s will? America’s a falling nation.

Welcome
Any nation calling good evil and evil good is trying God. That nation cannot prevail. The record of Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 19) should be a wake-up call for anyone considering homosexuality as an acceptable lifestyle. It is not acceptable to the one and only God of the Bible. What man has the power to override what God defines as vile?
There are those who say the homosexual is born homosexual and has no control concerning his or her sexual orientation. The Bible teaches differently. Romans, chapter one, and in particular verses 18-32 make it clear, mankind naturally (how he or she is born) is attracted to the opposite sex.
Some will say I should not judge others. Verses 1-11 of chapter two of Romans clearly show that God has already made judgment concerning all sin, including homosexuality (1 Corinthians 6:9). I simply call your attention to his word. My heart’s desire and prayer is that this nation and its leaders repent and look to God as our guide for governing this nation and not whoever is the loudest or wealthiest.
