CHINA GROVE — In a brief Tuesday meeting, the China Grove town council unanimously approved its 2013-14 budget without any discussion. No one spoke during the public hearing. The budget is balanced at about $3.1 million and includes a 1 percent cost-of-living increase and a 2 percent merit pay raise pool for employees. The board also approved fee increases for curb cutting equipment.
The budget does not include a tax increase and the board has said won’t likely include a tax hike in the following year’s budget.
The board also:

• Discussed an open house scheduled Sunday, July 14 at 2 p.m. for anyone to see town hall. The construction to town hall and the fire department has been completed. The town board held its first meeting inside the new town hall in the earlier part of this year.
• The annual Farmer’s Day event will be held Saturday, July 20 beginning at 8 a.m. and will again include a Friday concert beginning at 8 p.m. in Hannah Park.
The July council meeting is canceled. The board will next meet in August.
