The N.C. Department of Transportation is preparing to remove the bridge taking N.C. 73 over N.C. 49 in Mount Pleasant, as part of a $19.4 million project to improve 2.1 miles of N.C. 49 from east of Walker Road to east of N.C. 73.
Contractor W.C. English Inc. will work from 10 p.m. Friday, June 28, until 6 a.m. Saturday, June 29, weather permitting. Work will continue each night through 6 a.m. Wednesday, July 3.
Crews will remove the bridge deck first, followed by the bridge’s concrete beams. During these operations, flaggers and law enforcement will be directing traffic to safely access N.C. 49 and N.C. 73.
The project is scheduled to be completed in June 2014.
