Sheriff’s office looking for sex offender

SALISBURY — The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a registered sex offender who has been living too close to a child care center.
The sheriff’s office has an outstanding warrant for Phillip Larry Berryman, 48, of Old Plank Road in Salisbury, for a sex offender residence violation.
Accoridng to a sheriff’s office press release sent Friday, Berryman is living within 1000 feet of Salisbury Child Care and Fine Arts, located at 1319 Standish St. in Salisbury.
State law prohibits a sex offender from residing within 1,000 feet of a property on which any public or non-public school or child care is located.
In 2005, Berryman was convicted of indecent liberties with a child. He was convicted of failure to register as a sex offender in 2006 and again in 2009.
He served time in prison from October 2006 to March 2008 and from March 2009 to March 2010.
Attempts to locate Berryman have so far been unsuccessful. Anyone with information about his whereabouts should contact 911 to request a law enforcement response. Johnny Lombard is the investigating officer.
