Rowan Amateur dates set

The 35th annual Horace Billings Rowan County Amateur Golf Championship will be held at Corbin Hills.
Qualifying dates are July 12, 13 and 14. Championship dates are July 19, 20 and 21.
Residents of Rowan County and members of Rowan golf clubs are eligible.
Qualifying is by stroke play, with the low 31 scores and the defending champion advancing to the match play championship.
Players tied for medalist honors will compete in a nine-hole playoff on July 15 at 5 p.m. Players tied for the final qualifying spot will compete in a sudden-death playoff on July 15 at 5:30 p.m.
The entry fee is $20 and does not include green fee or cart fee for the championship.
Entry deadline is July 10 at 5 p.m.

The Kannapolis Intimidators lost 5-1 at Greensboro on Friday.
Yordy Cabrera, Jesus Solorzano and Viosergy Rosa homered for the Grasshoppers.
Micah Johnson tripled and scored his 56th run for Kannapolis. He leads the minor leagues in steals with 47 and is second in runs scored.

Rowan County’s scheduled road game against the Mooresville Legends was washed out on Friday.
Rowan is off tonight and is scheduled to play at Newman Park against Davidson County on Sunday.

West Rowan Youth Wrestling Camp will be held on July 23-25 from 4-7:30 in the West Rowan High wrestling room.
The cost is $40.

The last opportunity to sign up for Junior Babe Ruth Baseball is at the East Rowan cafeteria at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
The league is for players age 13-15.

Falcon Basketball Camp will be held at West Rowan High on July 15-18 for rising 2nd-8th grade boys.
Camp is from 9 a.m. until noon. Cost is $50 for four days of fun and a chance to improve your game. Campers receive T-shirts.
