Juneteenth, “A Celebration of Family And Friends” will be held from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 15 at Kelsey Scott Park.
This historical holiday, which celebrates the end of slavery, has been celebrated in Rowan County for 18 years.
Local and area talent are invited to participate in the first “Juneteenth Apollo” contest.
There will be three competition categories: Apollo kids, Apollo teens and Apollo adults.
Again this year there will be the customary car show, horseshoes, one-on-one basketball contest, food, fun, fellowship and a variety of service and merchandise vendors. The event is free to the public.
Proceeds from Juneteenth 2013 will be used toward a back to school giveaway and other charitable contributions in the community.
