At the May meeting of the Kannapolis City School Board, the Kannapolis Education Foundation presented a $20,000 check for the school system’s technology campaign.
The $20,000 will be used to buy more iPads for Kannapolis City School System classrooms.
So far, the Kannapolis Education Foundation has given $60,000 to the school system to buy iPads. The money that was donated at the May meeting came primarily from the TECH Campaign breakfast fundraiser that was held in March.
More than 250 eighth- grade Academically and Intellectually Gifted (AIG) students from the Rowan-Salisbury School System showed off their filmmaking talent in on April 19 at the GEM Theatre in Kannapolis.
Each school submitted up to six films based on this year’s theme, “A Perfect World… Then or Now.” This project is done to enhance a unit of study on utopia.
Upon entering the theater, students and guests had an opportunity to view all student-created films while enjoying popcorn and drinks. After a short break, the nominees were presented and Oscar-style awards were given to the winning groups. This year’s winners were:
• Best Sound – North Rowan Middle School for “The 1920s vs. 2013”

Science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) educational camps can be found at Camp Cannon this summer.
In “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” held July 29 through Aug. 2, children ages 8-12 search for evidence, gather clues and discover how science can help solve a mystery by comparing fingerprints, analyzing handwriting and examining hair and clothing fibers.
Campers ages 7-11 will also enjoy “Roaring Rockets,” offered July 29 through Aug. 2, where they will focus on rockets and the physics of flight by building multiple designs and participating in daily launches.
Camp Cannon runs for seven weeks beginning June 10 through Aug. 2 (with the exception of the week of July 4) at Cannon School, located at 5801 Poplar Tent Road in Concord.
Campers will have fun within the safe learning environment of the school’s 65-acre campus, which includes state-of-the-art facilities, two gymnasiums, a dance studio, multiple athletic fields, six tennis courts and wooded wetlands.
