The Rowan Museum, celebrating its 60th birthday this year, held an old-fashioned fashion show in April 1980, and museum supporters posed for some beautiful pictures in period attire. From left are Karen Wagoner, Anna Mills Wagoner and Jennie Sparks. The beaded dress worn by Karen Wagoner on the left belonged to Sparks’ great-grandmother, Mrs. Lee Slater Overman. The ruffled black gown Sparks is wearing belonged to her great-great grandmother, Mrs. Augustus Summerfield Merrimon, who wore it to afternoon teas in Washington, D.C. The metallic green lace gown sported by Anna Mills Wagoner in the center belonged to Sparks’ grandmother, Mrs. Edwin C. Gregory, who often was hostess for her father, U.S. Sen. Lee S. Overman.
