Junior Keaton Hawks delivered a two-out, two-run walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift Catawba’s baseball team to a 6-5 win over SAC foe Lincoln Memorial on Friday night at Newman Park.
The 30th-ranked Indians i(28-13, 16-6) bounced back after allowing Lincoln Memorial (20-18, 12-10) to take a 5-4 lead in the top of the ninth on a solo homer by Josh Coker
Julio Zubillaga (Carson) started the bottom of the ninth with a walk. He went to second on a sacrifice by Cam Cockman and took third on a groundout. Craig Brooks walked, giving way to pinch-runner Blake Houston (South Rowan), who stole second.
That set the stage for Hawks, who singled to shallow center.
Nick Lomascolo (8-2) was the winning pitcher. He allowed eight hits and fanned 10.
Cockman homered for the Indians in the fifth. Zach Smith (East Rowan) hit a three-run, pinch-hit homer in the seventh to tie the game 4-all.
Catawba returns to action today with a Senior Day doubleheader, starting at 1 p.m.
College football
Catawba’s annual Blue-White Spring Game is scheduled for today at 11 a.m.
Local golf
Eighty GARS members played at Cresecent with a Captain’s Choice format.
Nelson Earnhardt made a hole-in-one on the 124-yard No.15 hole.
The first-place team at minus-8 was Gordon Correll, Windsor Eagle, Butch Grambow and Roy Green.
Three teams finished at minus-7.
•The NC District West Civitan Victory Junction Camp is holding a golf tournament at the Club at Irish Creek on Monday, May 20. Shotgun start at at 1 p.m. The cost is $100 per player. Hole sponsorships for $100 are being sought.
This is the 10th anniversary of the camp. T-shirts and bandanas for the event are being printed at Thompson Screen Prints in Rockwell.

Booster club meeting
The Salisbury High School Athletic Boosters will meet on Monday at 7 p.m. in golf coach Dale Synder’s classroom.
Please enter the school by the auditorium doors. Topics will include the 2013-14 football program and season passes.
Minor leagues
The Kannapolis Intimidators rallied for two runs in the ninth inning to beat the Lakewood BlueClaws 5-4 on Friday night in a game played in New Jersey.
Kale Kiser and Micah Johnson singled to start the rally. Jason Coats singled in the tying run, and the go-ahead run scored on a throwing error.
Brandon Hardin (1-0) was the winning pitcher.
Catawba lacrosse
John Scheich scored a school-record nine goals to lead Catawba (6-6, 4-3) to a 21-12 win against Wingate in Deep South Conference men’s lacrosse action on Friday at Shuford Stadium.
Phil Hemmeler scored eight goals in a game in 1999 and also did it in 2000.
College baseball
Appalachian State’s Noah Holmes (East Rowan) had two hits and drove in a run in Saturday’s 9-5 win against Georgia Southern.
• Justin Roland (East) and Justin Seager (NW Cabarrus) scored runs in Charlotte’s 8-4 win against UNC Asheville.
