Rowan traffic stop leads to drug charges for Texas woman

SALISBURY — A Texas woman was arrested on felony drug charges Wednesday during a traffic stop in Rowan County.
Korea Airel Davis, 20, of 4127 Tranquil View Drive in Houston, was stopped Wednesday by the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office Aggressive Criminal Enforcement Team. She was stopped on Peeler Road for a “valid traffic infraction,” the Sheriff’s Office said.
Davis had been traveling northbound on Interstate 85 in a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu with Texas registration.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, a deputy smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and saw several bundles of money on the passenger seat. During questioning, Davis said she was traveling to Virginia and had been smoking marijuana when in Georgia.
During a probable cause search of the vehicle, deputies located about 47 grams of high-grade marijuana packaged for sale in small plastic bags, the Sheriff’s Office said. Also located in the vehicle were drug paraphernalia, a gas mask and $1,950 in cash.
Davis was charged with felonious possess with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver marijuana, maintaining a vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was taken to the Rowan County Detention Center, and bond was set at $10,000.
