KANNAPOLIS — City Councilman Tom Kincaid says he plans to run for mayor this year.
Current Mayor Bob Misenheimer has said he won’t seek re-election after eight years in the office.
In a news release, Kincaid touted his experience in business.
“As a small business owner in Kannapolis for 20 years, I know the ups and the downs, and I know what it means to have people depending on you,” said Kincaid, who has served on the City Council since 2010. “I feel I have a lot to offer the citizens of Kannapolis.”
Kincaid, 60, is owner and administrator of Caremoor Retirement Center, which operates three properties in Kannapolis. He is also chairman of the board of Cabarrus Health Alliance, the county’s public health department.
Kincaid is also a past president of the Kannapolis Rotary Club, where he has held various offices and committee posts; was named a Paul Harris Fellow; and was a recipient of the 2011-2012 Distinguished Rotarian Award at Rotary’s annual District Conference.
