SALISBURY — Joe Pinyan is leaving Salisbury High School after 10 years to take the head football coaching job at Carson High School.

He is replacing Mark Woody, who resigned recently to become the new athletic director at Carson.

“It’s just another chapter in my football career,” Pinyan said.

The move is a bit of a reunion for Pinyan and Woody, who were both assistant coaches at Mooresville High School earlier in their coaching careers.

Pinyan had a successful run at Salisbury. In 10 years, Pinyan’s teams averaged 10 wins a season and turned Salisbury into a 2A power.

Pinyan will be teaching physical education at Carson. He met with the Salisbury players Tuesday morning and gave them the news.

He will face his old team in this season’s opening game: Carson at Salisbury.

The full story will be in Tuesday’s paper.
