Trinity United Methodist to host 58th annual barbecue event

KANNAPOLIS — Trinity United Methodist Church’s 58th annual barbecue is today from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Carry-out or dine-in is $9 per plate or three sandwiches. Homemade desserts will be available for sale for dine-in patrons. Uniformed fire fighters, law enforcement, EMS and military personnel price is $8 for dine -in, plus they get a free dessert.

Ordination service at Antioch

CLEVELAND — Antioch Baptist Church hosts the service of installation into the office of Deacon for Bro. David R. Houston and Bro. Nathaniel Mitchell.
The ordination service will be on Sunday, March 3, at 3 p.m. Guest speaker will be Rev. John Leazer of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church of Kannapolis.

NAMB Study at Calvary Baptist Church
This Sunday, March 3, Calvary Baptist Church will host its annual study for the North American Missions Emphasis, entitled “Whatever It Takes: Reaching the One,” led by Rev. Dr. Steve Sells and his wife, Shirley.
Dr. Steve Sells is originally from Salisbury, and specifically from Calvary Baptist Church. He is currently director of missions for the Randolph Baptist Association in Asheboro.
The evening will kick off with a finger food snack supper at 5 p.m in the fellowship hall, followed by the mission study at 6 p.m. The NAMB Annie Armstrong Easter Offering enables Southern Baptist missionaries to reach North America with the Gospel message of Christ.

St. Matthew’s Lutheran

St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church’s Lenten service and soup and sandwich supper beginning at 5:30 p.m. will be held in the family life center tomorrow. Sacred Heart Lenten Mission begins Sunday
Sacred Heart Catholic Church’s Lenten Parish Mission will be held Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, March 3-5, at 7 p.m. at the church, 375 Lumen Christi Lane.
The Lenten Parish Penance Service will be held Wednesday, March 6 at 7 p.m. Several visiting priests will be present to hear confessions.
This year’s mission is led by the Rev. Matthew Buettner, whose theme will be “Fighting the Good Fight: Spiritual Challenges We Face Today.”
Father Buettner, author of “Understanding the Mystery of the Mass,” is pastor of St. Dorothy’s Catholic Church, Lincolnton.

Music & Meditation series at St. John’s
St. John’s Lutheran Church, 200 W. Innes St. in Downtown Salisbury, presents its annual Music & Meditation series on Mondays, March 4, 11 and 18, from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. in the chapel. These events are free and the public is invited.
The services will include prayer and meditation, led by the Rev. Rhodes Woolly, senior pastor, and Danielle Kosanovich, diaconal minister for youth and outreach.
Guest artist on March 4 is Matthew Weaver on keyboard. After 13 years as music director at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Matthew recently resigned to pursue a career in music full-time. He divides his time between Boone and Nashville.
Performing March 11 are Michelle Trivette on saxophone and Rosemary Kinard on piano. Trivette teaches music at Bostian and Enochville elementary schools to grades K-5. Kinard is associate parish musician at St. John’s.
Performing March 18 are Kinard on flute and Rob Durocher on piano. Durocher has been St. John’s minister of music since April 1998 as principal organist.
