The Rowan County Cattlemen’s Association will meet Thursday, March 7, at 7 p.m. at the Rowan County Agriculture Center on Old Concord Road in Salisbury. Tom Haarmann, financial services manager with Carolina Farm Credit will speak on estate planning and business succession for producers.
Marcus Harward with Stanly County Livestock and Harward Brothers Livestock will also present information on marketing options for Rowan County cattle. He will also share his opinions on how cattlemen can increase the value of their cattle. This informational meeting includes a sponsored meal. Rowan County Beekeepers Association is sponsoring a Beginner Beekeeping School in March at the Agricultural Center, 2727-A Old Concord Road. Classes are: Tuesdays, March 5, 12 and 19. These three webinar classes will be from 7-9 p.m. and taught by N.C. State University Apiculturist Dr. David Tarpy. There will be a field day, Saturday, March 23, from 10 a.m.–1 p.m. in the apiary. The cost is $65 per person which includes handouts, refreshments and a one-year membership to the RCBA (Rowan County Beekeeper’s Association). Registration and payment can be made at Cooperative Extension Service. Checks can be made out to RCBA.

Cooperative Extension is hosting a pesticide workshop for commercial and private applicators on Thursday, March 28. The workshop will provide information on fire ant control in lawns, landscapes and pastures as well as proper pesticide storage and personal protective equipment.
The workshop will be at Faith Farm and Equipment Sales, 585 W. Ritchie Road, Salisbury.
• 9 a.m. — Fire Ants-Control Measures for Landscapes, Lawns and Pastures, Darrell Blackwelder, county extension director, Rowan County.
• 10 a.m. — Pesticide Storage and Personal Protective Equipment, Charlie Jones, N.C. Department of Agriculture pesticide inspector I.
Two hours pesticide recertification credits have been approved for the following sub-classes: L. Ornamental & Turf, D. Dealer, N. Demonstration & Research, O. Ag Pest Plant and X. Private.
