SALISBURY — The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office charged five people with drug trafficking after searching two homes, one of which had been searched earlier this month.
The following were charged:

• Steven Daniel Kenneway, 26, of Fox Run Road, Salisbury, with one count felony trafficking heroin. Kenneway remains in the Rowan County jail under a $20,000 secured bond.
• Nicole Doris Clark, 42, also of Fox Run Road, Salisbury, with one count felony trafficking heroin and one count felony conspire to traffic in opium. Clark remains in the Rowan County jail under a $50,000 secured bond.
• Ricky Ray Shackleford, 61, also of Fox Run Road, Salisbury, with one count felony maintaining a dwelling place/vehicle for a controlled substance, one count felony trafficking heroin and one count misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Shackleford remains in the county jail under a $75,000 secured bond.
• Paul Sylvester Burgess, 73, of Percy Lane, Rockwell, with one count felony conspire to traffic in opium. Burgess remains in the county jail under a $20,000 secured bond.
• Samuel Lee Knotts, 37, of East Lafayatte Street, Salisbury, with one count felony trafficking heroin, conspire to traffic opium by possession and transportation.
Officials executed the state search warrants on Wednesday at 335 Fox Run Road and 1105 Percy Lane as a follow up to a search at Fox Run Road on Feb. 7, a report said.
The arrests stem from the Feb. 7 seizure of 1,000 opioid prescription drugs and $17,000 during a vehicle stop involving Shackleford and Knotts as well as Shackleford’s home. Investigators found ledgers inside the home that described the sales of large amounts of opioids that were being obtained through legal prescriptions.
Investigators found unfilled prescriptions in Shackleford’s possession that belonged to Burgess and Clark, the Sheriff’s Office said. The investigation continues.
