SALISBURY — The city’s Historic Preservation Commission will consider requests to build an addition at Henderson Independent High School and replace 310 windows at the Yadkin House.
When the commission meets at 5:15 p.m. Thursday at City Hall, 217 S. Main St., the Rowan-Salisbury Board of Education and architect Bill Burgin will request a Certificate of Appropriateness for an 648-square-foot addition at Henderson to house a culinary arts program.
Henderson is located at 1215 N. Main St. The addition would go at the rear of the building.
Also on Thursday’s agenda:

• Dallas-based Chisom Housing Group, the new owner of the Yadkin House at 201 N. Lee St., and Tom Speaks of Speaks Custom Window and Sunrooms in Salisbury will request a Certificate of Appropriateness to remove 310 aluminum windows at the 1913 hotel, which now houses low-income seniors and people with disabilities.
Chisom and Speaks propose replacing the windows with double-hung, reinforced, tan vinyl premium windows, custom-fit with insulated energy glass and exterior grids to match, as well as screens.
• The city and a business want to install a bronze sculpture on a metal pedestal in a brick planter at the southeast corner of North Main and East Liberty streets.
A&H Investments Inc. and Salisbury City Planner Lynn Raker will request a Certificate of Appropriateness for the sculpture at 120 E. Council St.
• Code Enforcement Manager Chris Branham will discuss a proposed ordinance on boarded-up properties, as well as notification for properties that are nearing demolition.
• A committee will report on 1300 N. Main St.
