A Salisbury man was charged with burglary and drug trafficking after a man who lived near his neighbor told authorities his wallet and cell phone were taken from his home.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office charged Kenneth James Arquette Jr., 38, of Burkesway Drive, with one count of felony burglary and one count of felony trafficking heroin.
Troy Horton of Cruse Road said he’d last seen his wallet when he bought items at Auto Zone. He reported to authorities he had $500 cash, credit cards and other items in the wallet. Horton said the only person he believed would take his wallet and cell was the son of his neighbor, Kenneth Arquette. Arquette’s mother told Horton she also believed her son had taken his property. Deputies searched Arquette’s mother’s home, where he was staying, after he told them Horton’s items were inside the trash.
Deputies found eight oxycodone pills in the chair where Arquette had been sitting. Arquette later admitted to going into Horton’s home around 5 a.m. on Friday and taking his wallet and cell. Arquette had just more than $400 in his wallet and inside his mother’s bedroom, where he’d hidden some of the money.
The credit cards were used at Bass Pro Shops, Lowes Home Improvement, Sam’s Club, Sheetz and Gander Mountain, an outdoor apparel company. Arquette remains in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $65,000 secured bond.
