SALISBURY — The Rowan County Fair Association announced Monday it will bring a new festival to the Rowan County Fairgrounds on Julian Road.
MayFest will be held May 15-19 and include carnival rides, nightly entertainment, food, craft and vendor displays.
“When we acquired the fairgrounds in 2012, we promised to bring more family-friendly events to Rowan County,” said Fairgrounds Manager Johnny Love. “MayFest is just one of many events we are working on that will provide more entertainment options for our area.”
MayFest will feature carnival rides and attractions provided by Smokey Mountain Amusements from Robbinsville. Gates will open nightly at 5:30. Saturday and Sunday will have extended hours, with the gates opening at 2 p.m. Admission will be $3 per person, children under the age of 3 are free.
A demolition derby is planned for Friday, May 17, and a truck pull will be held on the evening of Saturday, May 18.
The exhibit hall at the fairgrounds will be home to craft vendors and area businesses that wish to promote their products and services to those attending. Anyone interested in sponsorship or exhibiting can contact Randall Barger at 704-640-2326.
The Rowan County Fairgrounds are owned and operated by the Rowan County Fair Association. The property is used throughout the year for agricultural shows, large flea market or antique sales, meetings and conventions involving livestock or motorcycles and automobiles.
It’s a 52-acre site with parking for 4,200 cars. The fairgrounds are available for rental to host other public and private events. Anyone interested should contact Barger.
