Wet snow splatters Rowan

SALISBURY — Snow showers Saturday left many areas of Rowan County dusted in white.
The snow began in the morning as flurries, then started up again as a quick burst of heavy snowfall in the late afternoon.
Accumulation was slight, but enough to create a light coating of snow, especially on grassy areas.
Today will bring the return of sunny weather, according to the National Weather Service, and a high of around 40 degrees. Monday is expected to warm up even more, with temperatures reaching above 50 degrees.
There may be some icy spots on the roads early this morning until the temperature rises above freezing to melt them.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation said crews would be monitoring road conditions overnight, and they will treat trouble spots with a sand and salt mixture as needed.
The transportation department offered the following tips for driving on potentially icy roads:
• Slow down.

• Bridges and overpasses freeze first.
• Put down the cell phone and focus on the road.
• Use only gentle pressure on both the accelerator and the brakes to avoid skidding.
• Give other motorists plenty of room in case you or other drivers begin to slide.
