SALISBURY — Rowan County Republican Chairman Greg Edds said he “probably” won’t run for re-election this year, leaving vacant the county’s top GOP position.
“Unless something drastic changes, that’ll probably be the case, yes,” Edds told the Post Friday.
Edds has manned the head spot since 2010. He cited family and his business, as well as “grueling” election seasons over the last three years.
“We began developing leadership roles within the party, within the county party. I’ve helped direct things for three years,” Edds said. “I’ve had a couple of school age children at home at that time. I have a business that I own and run.”
Edds has been credited with drawing some of the biggest GOP names to Salisbury during his tenure as chairman, including National Republican Chairman Reince Priebus and Gov. Pat McCrory.
Edds said previously he has been asked to run for office. He said Friday he wouldn’t rule out a return to politics.
“Maybe in a few years when the kids are gone and things have recovered in every regard that they call me to do it again, if that’s what they ask,” Edds said.
