Livingstone’s men’s basketball team earned its biggest win of the season by rallying to beat CIAA rival Shaw 76-70 in Raleigh on Saturday.
The Blue Bears (13-3, 5-2) closed the game with a 10-0 run and ended Shaw’s eight-game winning streak.
With Livingstone trailing 70-66 with 1:30 left, Mark Thomas hit a game-changing 3-pointer. After a Shaw miss, Jody Hill scored to put the Blue Bears in front 71-70.
Shaw turned it over, and Thomas made two free throws with 42 seconds left for a three-point lead.
After Shaw (12-5, 6-1) missed at the foul line, Eladio Espinoza knocked down two clutch free throws for the Blue Bears.
Shaw missed two more shots, and Thomas made a free throw for the final margin.
Thomas scored a game-high 17 points, but the key stat for the point guard was zero turnovers in 37 minutes.
Livingstone committed only five turnovers, and that enabled the Blue Bears to overcome a dismal 2-for-18 shooting day from behind the 3-point line.
Hill scored 13 points for the Blue Bears, while Espinoza contributed 11 points and nine rebounds.
Darnell Turner and foul-plagued Tyler Johnson scored eight points each. Daresse Johnson provided a lift off the bench with 3-for-3 shooting and six points in six minutes.
Karron Johnson scored 14 to lead Shaw, and Junius Chaney had 13.
Livingstone shot 47.6 percent for the game, while Shaw shot 42.9 percent.

Catawba men
It was a long day for Catawba’s men’s basketball team.
The Indians were blown out in the first half at Newberry.
Newberry led 20-11 when it embarked on a 3-point spree to take a 33-11 lead midway through the first half.
The Wolves (6-8, 2-4 SAC), who were coming off a dismal loss, led 57-31 at halftime.
Tyrece Little had 18 points and nine rebounds for the Indians (4-10, 1-5). Reggie Perkins scored 12 points, and Chris Watson scored 10. Nick Houston (Carson) and Julian Sampah scored eight each. Lee Martin produced 10 rebounds.
Brandon Riley scored 24 for the Wolves, who drilled 14 3-pointers.

Pfeiffer men
Pfeiffer lost 77-70 to visiting North Greenville in a Conference Carolinas game played on Saturday at Merner Gym.
North Greenville (6-6, 3-5) made 14 3s and got 24 points from Tyshawn Patterson.
Pfeiffer (3-12, 1-7) was led by A.J. Clark’s 19 points. Jerod Wallace added 15.

Catawba women
Catawba’s women’s basketball team struggled on the road again on Saturday and lost 67-55 to SAC rival Newberry.
Elizabeth Merritt scored 17 points to lead the Indians (7-7, 3-3). Antoinette McPhail and Quaneasia Coleman scored 10 each. Taylor May (South Rowan) scored six.
Kendra Brown led the Wolves (12-4, 4-2) with 19 points.
Newberry shot 51.2 percent from the field, while the Indians shot 38.5 percent.

Livingstone women
Livingstone’s women’s basketball team couldn’t slow down Shaw on Saturday and lost 101-68 in Spaulding Gymnasium in Raleigh.
Shaw shot 62.5 percent in the first half on its way to a 52-41 halftime lead and shot 53 percent for the game.
Livingstone (6-10, 2-5 CIAA) shot 41.5 percent and committed 31 turnovers.
Jasmine Murray led the Blue Bears with 16 points, and Cierra York added 13.
Crystal Harris scored 22 for Shaw (14-2, 6-1).

Brittany Cox scored 29 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead Pfeiffer’s women to an 86-71 overtime win against visiting North Greenville on Saturday.
Christina Harvey scored 21 for the Falcons (11-2, 6-2).

Girls first-round tournament results. All games at China Grove.

Down three points early in the second half, Knox (13-2) rallied. Tyzarea Alexander led the Trojanswith 10 points, while Kiilantra Mashore scored seven. Niah Spratt and Deztane Hightower added five points apiece.
China Grove (4-11) was paced by Keara McClary with 16 points.
(4) North 27, (5) C-Lipe 26
North Rowan (9-6) pulled away from a 9-9 halftime tie to take a 24-16 lead over Corriher-Lipe but the Yellow Jackets battled back.
The Mavericks held on despite losing Priscilla Oglesby and Brianna White on fouls. Jekevia Hopkins scored eight points, while Oglesby and White added seven and six, respectively.
Corriher-Lipe (6-9) was led by Kallie Ketchie with 15 points. Keirsten Morgan added six points.
(2) Erwin 40, (7) SEM 22
Erwin (13-2) won behind Destiny Jackson and Ashlyn Mills with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Micah Furr had seven points and five steals. Breya Philpot had five points, nine rebounds, nine steals, five assists and four blocks. Sara Gunter grabbed seven boards.
Southeast (2-13) was paced by Miyahna Pruitt and Ariana Williams with eight and six points, respectively.

Mooresville (13-2) rolled past West Rowan.
Sara Vanhoy led the Red Imps with 13 points. Sehrena Hull scored eight, and Taylor Kennedy and Kristen Ingram added five points apiece.

Undefeated Mooresville rolled. Noah Allen paced the Red Imps (15-0) with 19 points, while Jay Davis scored 14. Chris Ingram added eight.
Corriher-Lipe (0-15) was led by A.J. Knight with 10 points. Matt Mills scored eight.

West Rowan rompedbehind Kortez Weeks’ 18 points. Jovon Quarles scored 12 for the Bulldogs. Rodney Howell and Nick Warren added eight and six points, respectively.
Erwin (4-11) was led by Lucas Morton with 10 points. Franklin Downing added nine points for the Eagles.

Paris Hillie led the Trojans with 16 points, while Alonzo Sirleaf scored 13. Tre Oates and Shaleek Williams added eight and seven, respectively.

North (9-6) got 22 points from Joseph Scott. Terry Cathcart and Jayson Delgado scored 12 each, and Chris Clodfelter added 10.
Southeast (6-9) was led by Austin Love with 11 points and Malon Herron and Brenden Westbrook with 10 each. Nate Faulkner added nine.
Tuesday’s 6 p.m. semifinals are Mooresville against North at Southeast and Knox against West at China Grove.
