N. Main Baptist observes Sanctity of Human Life Sunday with film

In observance of Sanctity of Human Life Sunday, North Main Baptist Church will show the hit movie “October Baby” at 6 p.m. today.

The Pastor’s Anniversary Committee of Hall’s Chapel Primitive Baptist Church will sell fish, homemade chicken and dumplings, hotdogs and beverages from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. today.

The Rev. John Stirewalt will serve as guest preacher at Haven Lutheran Church at 10:30 a.m. Sunday,
Stirewalt is a graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne University and the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in Columbia, S.C.
After the fall of the Berlin Wall, Stirewalt travelled to Hamburg where he served as an exchange pastor.
While serving as a visiting pastor at a Hamburg parish, Stirewalt studied the effects of German reunification on congregational life.
In 2003 he was elected to serve as the Secretary of the Southeastern Synod – a synod of over 170 Lutheran congregations throughout Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi.
Stirewalt is currently the Assistant Regional Director of Church World Service.

WOODLEAF — DC & the Chosen Few with Matthew Weaver will be performing Sunday evening at Woodleaf UMC.

CHINA GROVE — Faith Community nurse, Gloria Ross, will be speaking in the evening service at the Southside Church of God at 6 p.m. Sunday.
Her topic will be “How to get rid of those Creepy Crawlers that cause the Heebie Geebies.” She will cover that and more. Her presentation will follow a time of worship through music.

The mission of Cantamos (Spanish for “we sing”) is to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ through sacred music.
The Cantamos choir is coming to Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks, 820 Klumac Road, for a concert at 5:30 p.m., Sunday at Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks.
Cantamos is a musical outreach ministry for the Western North Carolina Lutheran Via de Cristo movement. Its members come from 18 churches in the Charlotte, Concord, Hickory and Statesville areas. They sing contemporary and traditional Christian music that will inspire you.
Copies of Cantamos’ recently-recorded CD titled “One Faith, One Hope, One Lord” will be available for purchase after the concert. A free will offering will also be accepted to defray the costs of this non-profit ministry.
CHINA GROVE — A new ministry called Beyond Addiction kicks off from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Main Street Baptist Church.
It will be led by Todd Riley and assisted by the Pastor Rev. Dr. Larry Beaver.
The ministry is open to anyone seeking a resolution to the bondage of any kind of addictions. It is a 15-week interactive biblically based course. Main Street Baptist is located at 1615 N. Main St., across from Grove Supply Company.

Dave Ramsey’s popular Financial Peace University is coming to Rock Grove United Methodist Church, 1050 Rock Grove Church Road in Salisbury.
Financial Peace University is a biblically-based nine week program designed to help individuals and families reduce debt and live healthier financial lives.
You’re invited to attend a free preview session at 5 p.m. Sunday Jan. 27 in the church fellowship building. Classes begin February 10.
The cost is $95 per family; however a number of $50 scholarships are available upon request. Childcare will be provided.

First United Methodist Church Preschool, 217 South Church St., will be taking applications from church members, parents of children currently in the program and families that have previously had children in the program beginning Tuesday.
There are openings for 2, 3 and 4 year-olds. Beginning Monday, Jan. 28, the vacancies will be open to the public and filled on a first-come-first-served basis.
Two-year-olds meet two mornings a week, three-year-olds meet three mornings a week and the four-year-olds meet five mornings a week.

The United Ministerial Alliance of Salisbury-Rowan will honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., at 7 p.m. Sunday, at St. Luke Baptist Church, 410 Hawkinstown Road, where the Rev. Arthur L. Heggins is pastor.
The guest preacher will be the Rev. John Mendez, senior pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church of Winston-Salem.
He has served on international and national boards and committees including the Racial Justice Working Group and the General Board of the National Council of Churches, Partners in Ecumenism, and the Urban-Rural Commission of the World Council of Churches, the Black Theology Project Board, and the Human Rights Commission of the Baptist World Alliance.
Dr. Mendez holds a Master of Divinity degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, Wake Forest and a Doctor of Ministry degree from United Theological Seminary, Dayton, Ohio.
Milford Hills Baptist Church will host Rep. Carl Ford at 11 a.m. in recognition of Baptist’s Men’s Day.
Ford is the owner of Ford Broadcasting Network which comprises stations WRNA 1140 A. and WRKB 1460 AM.
He has been in radio since 1982 and owner of Ford Broadcasting Network since 1992.
Ford has served as chairman on the Rowan County Board of Commissioners, and this year was elected to serve in the General Assembly of the State of NC from District 76, which includes Rowan and Cabarrus counties.
Ford was born in Kannapolis now lives in China Grove. He and his wife are members of Truth Temple Church.
