Dr. Martin Luther King said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is what are you doing for others?” In response to this question, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. has set aside Sunday, Jan. 20, and Monday, Jan. 21, as National Community Service Projects days. Nationally, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.’s theme is, “Global Leadership Through Timeless Service.” In keeping with this theme, Delta Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority will celebrate King’s birthday with economic empowerment workshops. The workshops will be held at Jerusalem Baptist Church, 1570 N. Long St. Ext., from 3-5 p.m. On Jan. 21, Ruby A. Steele, guidance counselor at Salisbury High School, will present a workshop to middle and high school students and their parents or guardians titled, “Financial Planning and Academic Readiness.”
“Financial Planning for Homeownership” and “Selecting the Realtor That’s Right for You,” will be presented by Walillian K. White, branch manager of First Legacy Credit Union, who is a certified Realtor.
Both information sessions are open to the public. The chairman for this event is Lovetta Moore, and the chapter president is Renese Bates. Light refreshments will be served.
