Photo feature: The place I call home

In my earlier days with the Post, I sometimes wrote about my childhood growing up on a farm in Virginia. I feel very lucky to be able to return there to visit my parents, who still live there, although it’s now my brother who farms the land when he’s not being a large-animal veterinarian.

After traveling to a lot of different places around the world, I have come to realize that the part of the Shenandoah Valley I grew up in rivals the most beautiful places I’ve seen anywhere.

Whenever I go home now, I tend to wander around with my camera, taking it all in, from the last rose before winter to the rusty snarl of a barbed wire fence.

Every season is beautiful, in its own way.
