This photograph accompanied a Dec. 1, 1968, story in the Salisbury Sunday Post headlined “Women at Fiber Invade Men’s World.” It shows Dot Hutchins, right, foreman in the quality control department at the Fiber plant on U.S. 70, helping another lab analyst, Ida R. Talbert. The story mentioned that Hutchins was a mother of five who had worked her way to supervising lab analyst through “on-the-job experience.” She formerly had been employed by Winn-Dixie in Salisbury. Today’s Fiber plant is known as Performance Fibers.
