Catawba falls to Saints

Catawba’s men’s basketball team had four double-figure scorers but still lost 75-67 to visiting Limestone on Wednedsay night.
Elon Edwards scored 19 points for the Indians.
Tyrece Little had 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Julian Sampah scored 14 points, while Lee Martin had 10.
Limestone led most of the way and built a 10-point lead early in the second half.
Catawba (3-6) got within 64-62 on Sampah’s three-point play with 4:49 left, but Limestone’s Charles Blue scored the next four points.
Joe Raga had 15 points and 14 boards for the Saints (7-2).
Catawba shot 39 percent and was outrebounded 43-30.
Catawba plays at UNC Pembroke on Dec. 30.

Prep basketball
The Sam Moir Christmas Classic will be held Dec. 27-29 at Catawba’s Goodman Gym.
Games tonight will have a bearing on the pairings.
Salisbury is at Carson, while South Rowan hosts Central Davidson.
Davie County has wrapped up the No. 1 seed for the boys, while North Rowan will be No. 2.
North is certain to be playing No. 7 seed West Rowan the first day of the tournament.
•West Rowan’s undefeated girls are in the driver’s seat for the No. 1 seed. Carson has one loss. West is at home against South Rowan on Friday.
• A.L. Brown’s boys got point guard Derrick Copeland back and won against Robinson in their SPC opener on Tuesday.
• Ramesha Bennett scored 19 points, and Shatiya Bost had 16, as Northwest Cabarrus’ girls opened SPC play with a 54-43 win against Concord on Tuesday.

Prep wrestling
West Rowan’s wrestlers won 63-11 against Central Cabarrus and topped Hickory Ridge 45-30.
