CONCORD — Cannon School is one of only 51 schools nationwide to receive the High School Team Academic Award for both the girls’ and boys’ soccer programs from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
A total of 365 high school teams (140 boys’ and 225 girls’) throughout the United States have earned the NSCAA Team Academic Award for exemplary performance in the classroom as a team during2011-12. To qualify for the award, the high school team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.25 for the entire academic year. The team GPA is determined by adding every player’s GPA, then dividing by the number of players.
“I’m proud of our student-athletes on both teams for receiving this award for the second consecutive year,” says Matt Barlow, head coach of the boys’ and girls’ teams. “All of our players know the classroom comes first, and I fully support their academic endeavors in addition to their performance on the field.”
Founded in 1941, the mission of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America is to develop and to deliver educational programming and events that inspire members to improve and to enhance their involvement in soccer. The NSCAA has a responsibility to activate a network of coaches and others involved in the sport that will take responsibility for advancing soccer in the greater community.
Cannon School is a private independent junior kindergarten through 12th grade college-preparatory institution. It attracts more than 900 students from Concord, Davidson, Cornelius, Huntersville, Mooresville, Charlotte, the University City area, Kannapolis and Salisbury.
