SALISBURY — Following a three-day trial, a Rowan County Superior Court jury convicted a Kannapolis man of several felony drug offenses last week.
Roderick Tyrone Polk, 34, was sentenced to at least 70 months but not more than nearly eight years after he was convicted of felony trafficking hydrocodone, felony possession of cocaine and felony maintaining a dwelling or vehicle for storing drugs.
The charges stemmed from two Kannapolis Police raids in 2011.
In February 2011, officers netted a significant amount of hydrocodone, various drug paraphernalia and funds in Polk’s wallet that matched those used to make undercover purchases.
The following July, Polk was arrested again at the same home on Poplar Avenue in Kannapolis.
Probation officers, with the assistance of detectives, executed a warrantless search and found cocaine in the home.
Along with his active sentence, Polk is also required to pay a minimum fine of $50,000, according to a press release from the Rowan County District Attorney’s Office.

A Mooresville woman will spend up to seven years in prison and must also pay a mandatory $50,000 fine after she pleaded guilty in court last week.
Christy Ann Montgomery, 24, pleaded guilty to three counts of felony trafficking opium or heroin and one count of felony possession with intent to sell or deliver a controlled substance with 1000 feet of a school.
An informant with the Kannapolis Police Department purchased 17 Percocet pills from Montgomery on Oct. 3.
The transaction was about 200 feet from Grace Covenant Preschool in Kannapolis, a press release said.
Shortly after selling the pills, investigators stopped Montgomery who had her 1-year-old son in the vehicle. They found bills that matched those used in the undercover buy.

A Kannapolis man also pleaded guilty to selling prescription pills last week.
Ryan Harris Rhodes faces a mandatory $100,000 fine and was sentenced to at least 90 months to no more than 117 months.
Rhodes pleaded guilty in Rowan County Superior Court to two counts of felony trafficking opium or heroin, felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver prescription pills, felony possession with intent to sell or deliver narcotics, felony maintaining a dwelling or vehicle for storing drugs, felony selling or delivering narcotics, felony possession of a firearm by a felon, felony possession of a stolen firearm.
Rhodes was arrested following an investigation in September 2011. Detectives found the 24-year-old had stolen a firearm from a vehicle.
Three months later, the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office charged Rhodes with selling hydrocodone pills to an undercover deputy.
