Yesterday: Gas was cheaper then, but sometimes it took some waiting

Many of you might remember waiting in lines for gas at stations in Salisbury during parts of the 1970s. This photograph, looking east on East Innes Street from the Interstate 85 overpass, shows lines going into service stations on both sides of the highway. Prompted by various national and world events, Salisbury stations faced gas shortages, rationing and reduced hours in 1973, 1974 and 1979, leading to lines at the pumps. This photograph also shows how much the appearance of East Innes Street and vehicle styles have changed over the past 35 to 40 years.
