A.L. Brown running back Kalif Phillips has commited to the Charlotte 49ers football program.

Phillips (5-10, 185) scored 30 touchdowns this season while playing in 12 of the Wonders’ 14 games.

The Shrine Bowl pick rushed 204 times for 1,755 yards and 25 touchdowns.

He had 20 receptions for 413 yards and four scores and also had a kickoff return TD.

Phillips scored seven TDs in the Wonders’ epic playoff win against Hickory Ridge.

Phillips emerged as a junior when he rushed for 1,589 yards and scored 31 touchdowns.

• The NCHSAA announced the elimination of the pod system which groups teams by geography for the football playoffs. It will remain in use only in 1A and 1AA.

College track
Lees-McRae pole vaulter Evan Webb (East Rowan) posted an NCAA provisional mark of 4.90 meters (16 feet, 3/4 inches) at the Appalachian Invitational. Webb ranks first in the nation.

Prep girls hoops
West Rowan won 69-65 in overtime at Davie on Wednesday. Shay Steele scored 22 points for the Falcons (4-0). Nycieko Dixon had 19 and Khaila Hall had 12.

Haleigh Hatfield score 24 for Davie (2-3). Amy Steller scored 15. Asiah Peterson had 12 points and 18 rebounds.

Prep wrestling
The North Rowan wrestling team defeated sixth-ranked Davie County 40-31 and topped Mooresville 41-30 on Wednesday.

Marc Gonzalez, Damon Ellis, Braxton Rabon and Cecil McCauley went 2-0 in the tri-meet. Darrell Taylor (132) and Jaleel Hitchens (138) recorded back-to-back pins to secure the victory against Davie.

Freshman Isaiah Corpening recorded his first varsity win in the dual against Mooresville. The No. 1- ranked Cavaliers improved to 8-0 and will host defending 2A state champion Trinity on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

Jaguar hoops
Juliana Anderson had 17 points and nine rebounds to lead the Salisbury Academy varsity girls to a 35-29 win against Covenant Christian in Greensboro.

Maria Capito scored eight points. Jordan McCall led in assists. Jenny Kribbs and Ruth Clement led the defensive effort for the Jaguars (4-0), who play today against Statesville Christian.

• Salisbury Academy’s jayvee girls lost 25-6 to Summitt School in Winston-Salem. Annabel Barr, Lizzie Fisher and Anna Louise Lewis scored for the Jaguars.

•Salisbury Academy’s jayvee girls won 21-12 against Sacred Heart. Lewis scored eight points to lead the Jaguars and got scoring help from Fisher and Barr. Ellen Simons hit a 3-pointer to end the first half.

Carson camp
Carson will hold a boys and girls basketball camp for ages 6-12 in the Carson gym on Saturday, Dec. 8.

Camp is from 5-9 p.m. to give parents a night off or a night out.

Boys and Girls Basketball Camp (ages 6-12 years)

The $15 cost includes camp, pizza and a drink.
