Catawba student robbed at gunpoint

SALISBURY — Authorities said a Catawba College student was robbed at gunpoint near campus Wednesday.
A gunman held a pistol to the student’s waist, a Salisbury Police report said, as the 21-year-old walked back from a BP gas station on Statesville Boulevard. The man then demanded cash.
The suspect was described as a black male about 6 feet tall with long hair in dreadlocks. The man was wearing a hat with a black jacket and jeans.
The robbery happened around 8 p.m., officers said.
Authorities said the gunman left on foot with the student’s wallet and Droid phone. A small amount of cash and a debit card were inside the wallet.
