A gift to Christmas Happiness in memory of late husband

?Cora Weddington and her husband, Ray, would’ve been married for 65 years. The World War II veteran died in August.
Their love story began as students at then Landis High School. She gave to the Christmas Happiness Fund in memory of her high school sweetheart.
“We were in class together, some of them,” she said simply.
The fund provides Christmas presents for children who live in low-income households. The program is sponsored by the Salisbury Post, which accepts donations.
The Rowan County Department of Social Services distributes vouchers to eligible families.
It was the first year Weddington has ever given to the fund.
“If it would help somebody I just gave it,” she said.
Cora is a Rowan County native and as was Ray.
In 1944, Weddington was drafted into the Army that August. He was stationed briefly in Scotland and later served in Germany.
Weddington worked at Cannon Mills until his 1987 retirement.
