East Rowan beat Boiling Springs Crest 5-0 in the second round of the 3A dual team playoffs on Tuesday.
East (15-1) advanced to a third-round matchup with Hickory. Hickory (8-3) beat Asheville 7-2.
• Salisbury’s tennis team won 9-0 at Maiden in the second round of the 2A dual team playoffs.
Salisbury (18-2) will at home against the Cuthbertson-West Davidson winner in the third round.
Katelyn Storey, Alexandra Dryem Anna Flynn, Sallie Kate Meyerhoeffer, Madeline Hoskins and Kayla Honeycutt won in singles.
Storey-Flynn, Meyerhoeffer-Drye and Hoskins-Honeycutt rolled in doubles.
Prep football
ADM (attendance) figures were released by the NCHSAA on Tuesday.
Those are the figures used to determine which teams will be “A” and which will be “AA” in the state playoffs.
Some notable ADM figures: Davie (1,789), Hickory Ridge (1,426), Northern Guilford (1.425), A.L. Brown (1,421), Charlotte Catholic (1,415), Statesville (1,392), Concord (1,666), Carson (1,152), West Rowan (1,086), NW Cabarrus (1,082), East Rowan (1,055), West Iredell (998), South Rowan (992), Salisbury (886), West Davidson (787), Lexington (770), North Rowan (716),Thomasville (692), Tarboro (672), Albemarle (489) and South Stanly (465).
A.L. Brown will be 3AA. Statesville will be 3AA. West Rowan and East Rowan will be 3A. If it makes the playoffs, Carson would likely be 3A. North Rowan will be 1AA. As the 37th-largest 2A school, Salisbury appears headed to 2AA. Davie ranks 47th in ADM among 4A schools and is on the bubble.
Prep volleyball
Central Davidson beqat Surry Central 3-2 and advanced to the third round of the 2A state playoffs. The Spartans (18-5) will play at Starmount (27-3).
• In the 3A playoffs, Charlotte Catholic (23-4) beat West Iredell 3-0 and advanced to a third-round matchup with Carson.
North Iredell (22-1) won at home, sweeping Southwestern Randolph.
• In the 4A playoffs, Davie (11-9) beat Greensboro Page 25-22, 25-16 and 25-20.
Rachel Ruble had 11 kills. Kristina Parrish had 21 assists. Kendall Tift had 18 digs.
7th-grade football
Knox stayed undefeated with a 22-0 win against Mooresville.
Fullback Jaleel Webster led the team with 124 yards and a touchdown.
QB Isaac Baker ran for two touchdowns and threw a two-point conversion to tight end Joe Steinman.
T.J. Gibson and Laderious Carter had productive rushing games.
Brandon Ligard, Zarreck Barger, Tory James and Clarence Brownell led the blocking.
Knox’s defense notched its fifth shutout.
Denver Venn had four tackles and a sack. Barger, James and Roger Chimney combined for nine tackles for loss, a sack and a forced fumble.
Knox closes the season against North Rowan Middle.
Local golf
Seventy-four GARS members played at Lexington Country Club.
Low ‘A’ Flight player with a net of 65.12 was David Lee.
Low ‘B’ Flight player with a net of 67.72 was Bobby Bryant.
Low ‘C’ Flight player with a net of 71.51 was John Cress. The low ‘D’ Flight player with a net of 70.31 was Tommy Gray.
