Salisbury’s jayvee football team flattened East Davidson 45-0 on Wednesday and finished an unbeaten CCC season.
The Hornets (9-1) didn’t allow a point defensively in their six CCC contests. They’ve won 33 straight in the league.
Erik Murray had two interceptions and had a third pick called back by penalty. Darius Jackson made a fumble recovery. Linebacker D.J. Alexander led in tackles.
Willie Clark scored on second-half runs of 4 and 58 yards. Antwon Glenn scored on runs of 54 and 45 yards.
Daeshaude White had a 63-yard scoring run, Riley Myers had a 4-yard scoring run, and Jackson ran 18 yards for a TD. Matt Woolly kicked three PATs.
Salisbury has won 80 of its 100 jayvee games in coach Joe Pinyan’s tenure.
The game was played on Wednesday so that Salisbury can make up a home soccer game tonight against Statesville.
8th-grade football
North Rowan Middle’s undefeated eighth-grade football team clinched the conference championship with a 34-32 win against West Rowan Middle.
The Mavericks drove 70 yards in the final 37 seconds and scored on the last play of the game on a 10-yard pass from Corbin Smith to Joseph Scott.
Malik Alford scored on a 57-yard run on the game’s first snap and added a 1-yard TD run and two-point conversion.
Smith threw a 12-yard TD pass to Zion Debose.
Scott had a 4-yard scoring run and a two-point conversion.
Steven Thurston, Spencer Bowler, Terry Cathcart, Taelor Davis, Javin Goodine and Victor Lyles were offensive leaders for the Mavericks.
Jerricho Alexander made two interceptions. Other defensive standouts for the Mavericks were Bowler, Thurston, Debose.
North (7-0) finishes the season next week at Knox.
7th-grade football
Malcolm Ingram scored TDs on runs of 5 and 6 yards as West Rowan Middle topped North Rowan Middle 20-14.
Bryant Young scored on a 1-yard run for the Bulldogs, and Devin Turner added a two-point conversion.
Brandon Wallace stood out offensively for West and recovered a fumble.
The Bulldogs’ defensive effort was led by Ingram, Luke Hager, Anthony Renegar, Caleb Mauldin, Dalton Pratt, Owen White, Zach Owen and Phillip McDaniel.
Jayden Jones scored the North TDs on runs of 43 and 54 yards. Xavier Haley scored a two-point conversion and stood out on defense.
West (6-1) is at Mooresville next. North (5-2) is at Knox.
Individual tennis
NCHSAA individual tennis championships are set for this weekend.
The 2A and 1A state championships are in Cary.
The 3A championship will be decided in Burlington, and the 4A title will be determined in Raleigh.
Opening rounds are at 9 a.m. on Friday.
Cuthbertson’s Kalli Karas will seek to defend her 2A title, while Mount Airy’s Jordan Jackson is the defending 1A champ.
? In 2A, Salisbury’s Katelyn Storey-Anna Flynn doubles team will take on East Duplin’s Savannah Pierson-Abigail Grady in the first round.
The first-round opponent for Salisbury’s Sallie Kate Meyerhoeffer-Alexandra Drye team will be Greene Central’s Kayla Radford-Lori Sutton.
In singles, Salisbury’s Madeline Hoskins faces First Flight’s Kate Power in the first round, and Salisbury’s Kayla Honeycutt is matched up with Swansboro’s Morgan Sheehan.
? In the 3A tournament, East Rowan’s Lizzie Weaver takes on Nash Central’s Caley Bass in a first-round match.
? In 1A singles, Gray Stone’s Meghan Hedgepeth will meet Raleigh Charter’s Darden Kim in the first round. Gray Stone’s doubles team of Libby Fowler-Brooke Herlocker will face West Columbus’ Emma Burroughs-Logan Elkins.
Dual team tennis
Salisbury’s next opponent in the 2A dual team state playoffs will be Waxhaw Cuthbertson (13-1). The Hornets will be at home for that third-round matchup on Monday.
? In East Rowan’s 5-0 win against Crest in the second round of the 3A dual team tennis playoffs, the winners in singles for East were Lizzie Weaver, Rebecca Agner, Laura Agner, Hannah Pressley and Drew Pethel.
East (15-1) is at Hickory on Monday in the third round.
?Gray Stone won 6-0 against Mooresboro Thomas Jefferson in the second round of the 1A dual team playoffs.
The Knights (17-0) will be at home against Kernersville Bishop McGuinness (14-3) in the third round.

Prep soccer
South Rowan ended its season with a 2-0 NPC win against East Rowan on Wednesday.
Luis Fierro and Dallas Goodnight scored in overtime for the Raider, who finished 3-9 in the NPC.
It was Senior Night for the Raiders. Abel Betancourt, Anthony Broadway, Goodnight, Andrew Jester and Devin Miller were honored prior to the game.
Prep volleyball
In the third round of the state playoffs tonight, Carson (32-3) is at Charlotte Catholic (23-4) in a 3A matchup.
North Iredell 22-1) is home tonight in a 3A matchup against Marvin Ridge (23-2).
In 4A, Davie (11-9), a No. 4 seed, has won twice and plays at Ardrey Kell (27-1).
CCC clubs West Davidson and Central Davidson have advanced to the third round in 2A. The Green Dragons (15-10) will be play at North Surry (29-2). Central Davidson (18-5) is at Starmount (27-3).

Prep golf
Tee times were announced for Salisbury’s golf team in the 1A/2A State Championships at Foxfire in Pinehurst.
The first round is Monday.
Isabella Rusher tees off at 9:10 a.m. Grace Tatawara tees off at 9:20. Madeline Hoskins will tee off at 9:30. Brooke Smith tees off at 9:40.
Middle school tennis
Erwin’s girls finished the season with a 12-2 record by sweeping Knox.
Erwin’s singles winners were Katie Barnes, Shannon Mahaffey, Alana Miller, Sabrina Harkey, Mia Graham and Emily Avalos.
Taking part in doubles victories were Megan Guzman, Haley Loflin, Destini Hamilton, Angel Scialdone, Amanda Sigmon and Jasey Jones.
The Eagles finished in second place in the conference.
Local golf
In a Corbin Hills Women’s Golf Association event played earlier this week, Carolyn Reis was the winner. Tying for second place were Norma Burgess, Beth Calhoun and Joy Maughmer. Eileen Full was third. Margaret Meeks and Karla Swanson tied for fourth.
?The Buffalo Soldiers Greater North Carolina Chapter is sponsoring the chapter’s annual scholarship golf tournament on Friday, Nov. 9, at Crescent.

College golf
Catawba’s women’s golf team finished 12th out of 18 teams in the Flagler Fall Slam held in St. Augustine’s, Fla.
Madison Kennedy (Salisbury) and Jana Burkhardt led the Indians. Burkhart shot 77-83 – 160, while Kennedy shot 82-78 – 160. They were in a tie for 30th.
College swimming
Catawba hosts a tri-meet with Limestone and Division I East Carolina today, starting at 5 p.m.
College soccer
Catawba’s men’s soccer team beat Pfeiffer 2-0 in Misenheimer on Wednesday.
Ezra Nitrugelegwa and Carson Smith scored for the Indians (8-6-3). Evan Harvey only had to make one save.
Catawba hosts Brevard at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
? Catawba’s women’s soccer team posted a 1-0 win against Limestone on Wednesday in Gaffney, S.C. Mary Kirkman scored the goal. Bethany Davis made six saves.
Parks and Rec
Registration for the Salisbury Parks & Recreation youth basketball league for boys ages 7-15 continues through Oct. 26.
Cost is $35. Practice starts in November.

? Salisbury Parks & Recreation will hold a youth basketball officials clinic at Hall Gym for anyone interested in calling in the youth league.
Clinic dates are Sundays, Nov. 4, 11 and 18 at 5 p.m. You must attend all three clinics in order to officiate in the league.
Youth track
The Hurley YMCA is hosting the first youth AAU sanctioned cross country meet to be held in Rowan County this Saturday. Races are in the following divisions: 8-under (2k), ages 9-10 (3k), ages 11-12 (3k), ages 13-14 (4k) and ages 15-18 (5k).
