SPENCER — A forum on education, bullying and laws that affect young people will be held Saturday at North Rowan Middle School in Spencer.
The North Rowan Parent & Student Education Forum is sponsored by the North Carolina Bar Association Foundation and the NCBA Juvenile Justice & Children’s Rights Council. It will take place from 9 a.m.-noon at the school, 512 Charles St., Spencer.
Workshops include:
g Fundamentals of Special Education Law, by Brenda Berlin, J.D., and Elisa Greenwood, Duke University School of Law Children’s Law Clinic.
g Suspension, Expulsion, and Alternative Education, Erwin Boyd, J.D., formerly with Legal Aid of N.C. Child Services (offered with simultaneous Spanish interpretation).
g Bullying, with Daniel Sevigny, Rowan County Youth Service Bureau.
g Youth and the Criminal Justice System, with Judge Beth Dixon, Rowan County District Court (also with Spanish interpretation).
Each workshop will be presented at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.
Representatives from North Rowan Connection, ARC Rowan, Rowan County Youth Services Bureau, Families First and the Rowan-Salisbury Schools will be on site to share information about their services.
Free child care and refreshments will be available, and door prizes will be awarded.
