SALISBURY — A Granite Quarry man is fighting for his life after authorities say he was nearly beaten to death with a two-by-four during a fight Friday evening.
Terry Charleston, 50, of Charleston Lane, remained in serious condition at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center Monday.
Authorities arrested Perry Mason Hackett, 45, of Cemetery Circle, at his home following the altercation.
Investigators said Hackett attacked the man about 5:30 p.m. The fight “supposedly started over a woman,”  an arrest report said.
Deputies believe alcohol was a factor.
Hackett was charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
He was in Rowan County jail Monday under a $50,000 bond.
