Man killed in Old Beatty Ford Road crash

CHINA GROVE — A man was killed Sunday night in a one-vehicle wreck on Old Beatty Ford Road.
Emergency crews responded to the crash in the 2500-block near State Road about 8:30 p.m.
A North Carolina State Highway Patrol trooper on the scene said the driver ran off the road and struck several trees.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver was described as a man in his 50s. His name was not immediately available, pending notification of the family.
Authorities said it had not been determined if speed or alcohol was a factor.
The vehicle, which appeared to be a silver four-door sedan, was traveling northwest toward Landis when it ran off the left side of the road, authorities said.
The vehicle came to a rest upright, but facing southeast.
Troopers said the driver was wearing a seatbelt.
Emergency crews closed both lanes of Old Beatty Ford Road during the clean up.
Mt. Mitchell Fire Department, Rowan EMS and the Rowan Rescue Squad assisted with the crash.The wreck was the third fatal crash on Old Beatty Ford Road this year.
