If you’ve always wanted to be a hero and save someone’s life, now is your chance to at least make that possible. First Reformed Church in Landis, 210 N. Central Ave., is holding a bone marrow registry drive from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21.
Kay Corriher, who organized the drive, was prompted to take action after watching the health struggles of Good Morning America co-host Robin Roberts, who has been battling MDS, a rare blood and bone marrow disorder. Roberts, among the fortunate 30 percent who find a match through a family member, has received bone marrow from her sister Sally Ann.
But 70 percent are not so lucky, says Corriher, who is hoping the drive will add 200 people to the registry.
Potential donors must be 18-44 years of age and have their cheek swabbed. Certain health guidelines must be met.
“It’s a much-needed thing,” she said. “It’s a chance to give something of yourself to maybe save somebody’s life.”
