For the third straight sesaon, coach Chris Myers’ Salisbury Hornets qualified all six tennis players for the individual 2A state tournament.
Katelyn Storey won her third Midwest Regional championship on Saturday at the Catawba’s Johnson Tennis Center.
Storey and Anna Flynn defeated their Salisbury teammates Sallie Kate Meyerhoeffer-Alexandra Drye 6-2, 7-6 (5) in the doubles final.
Storey also was a regional champion in doubles in 2009 and in singles in 2010.
In the doubles semifinals, Meyerhoeffer-Drye topped Ashe’s Haley Maloney-Anna Wooten 6-1, 6-0. Storey-Flynn beat Starmount’s Ashley Griffin-Heaven Walters 6-2, 6-1.
Maloney-Wooten beat Griffin Walters in three sets in a doubles consolation match for third place.
? Cuthbertson’s Kalli Karas won the 2A Midwest singles title. She beat Salisbury’s Madeline Hoskins 6-0, 6-1 in Saturday’s final.
It also was Karras’ third regional championship. She won in doubles in 2010 and in singles the past two seasons.
In the singles semifinals, Karras topped Salisbury’s Kayla Honeycutt 6-0, 6-0 and Hoskins won 6-3, 6-1 against West Stokes’ Leah Shelton.
Honeycutt beat Shelton 6-0, 6-0 in a consolation match for third place.
All of the participants who reached Saturday’s semifinals qualified for state competition.
Prep volleyball
Salisbury (12-9) lost in straight sets at North Surry (28-2) in the first round of the 2A state playoffs on Saturday.
? Davie County (9-8) won its first round match in the 4A state playoffs, topping Southern Alamance 13-25, 25-22, 25-21, 20-25 and 15-12.
Rachel Ruble had 16 kills for the War Eagles, and Ann Marie Jones had 11. Kendall Tift made 29 digs. Kristina Parrish had 28 assists.
? NPC teams North Iredell and West Iredell advanced to the second round. North Iredell swept Northwest Cabarrus, while West Iredell won 3-1 on the road at Ledford.
? CCC clubs West Davidson and Central Davidson were first-round winners.
? Playoff action resumes on Tuesday.

? The Cabarrus Stallions finished second in the state in the homeschool tournament.
The Stallions lost to the Asheville Trailblazers in the championship match.
The Stallions won in the semifinals 3-1 against top-seeded West Wake.
Anna Messisco had 16 digs, 13 kills and 15 assists for a triple-double. Emily Messisco had 17 digs. Jessica Chapman had 12 digs, and Brandy Parker had 10 digs. Kendyl Parker had 11 kills.
Catawba athletics
A goal by freshman Sophie Waller lifted Catawba’s women’s soccer team to a 1-0 overtime win against Lincoln Memorial in SAC action on Saturday at Frock Field.
Catawba improved to 10-6 overall and 4-4 in the league.
?Catawba’s volleyball teamfell to Mars Hill 21-25, 25-14, 26-24, 19-25 and 16-14 on Saturday.
Kaitlyn Whitmer had 26 kills for the Indians (8-11, 5-6).
Alli Parrish had 13 kills, 10 digs and 22 assists. Carson Brewer had 16 kills and 10 digs. Jenny Young had 35 digs.
? Catawba’s Cristian Crifasi ran to All-SAC honors in the SAC Cross Country Championships at Tusculum.
Crifasi finished 11th in the 8k race in 27:46.
Catawba’s men placed ninth.
Olivia Myers was 24th and led Catawba’s women with a 21:25 time in a 5k.
Devan Purvis (Carson) ran 24:33 and helped Catawba’s women finish eighth.
? Catawba’s men’s soccer team fell 2-0 to Lincoln Memorial on Saturday.
Mario Pinto scored both goals for the Railsplitters.
Evan Harvey made three saves for the Indians.
Catawba fell to 7-6-3 overall and 2-3-3 in the SAC.
